Overview

The Australian citizenship test is a mandatory requirement for most citizenship by conferral applicants aged between 18 and 59. The test assesses your knowledge of Australia's democratic beliefs, laws, and society. I provide comprehensive preparation guidance, practice resources, and test-day advice to help you pass with confidence.

The citizenship test consists of 20 multiple-choice questions drawn from the official resource book 'Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond'. You must answer at least 15 questions correctly (75%) to pass. The test is conducted in English on a computer at a Department of Home Affairs office. You have 45 minutes to complete the test.

If you fail the test, you can sit it again. There is no limit on the number of attempts, but you must wait for the Department to schedule your next test date. Repeated failures may lead to the Department requesting an interview to assess your understanding of the citizenship responsibilities and privileges.
